Captain Roald Amundsen,
% The Aerial Club,
Oslo, Norway.
My dear Captain Amundsen:
My hat is off and up in honor of
your brilliant achievement in flying so near to the North
Pole. Your indomitable courage and intrepid spirit quite
deserved your reaching the Pole itself — and I am confident
that some day you will do it.
It happens that I am to have the
good fortune of coming to Norway very soon as Mrs. Houston
and I are sailing on the Frederick the 8th on June 30th and
shall reach Oslo about July 9th or 10th. I certainly hope
that I may have the great pleasure of seeing you there so
that I can pay my personal compliments to you.
My great personal friend, Major
Loring Pickering, is just leaving for Europe and he has told
me over the telephone that he expects to see you in Norway
and I am expecting personally to foregather with him in
Oslo so we may be seeing you at about the same time.
For many years I was Publisher of
The World’s Work and the partner of our late Ambassador to
England, Walter Hines Page. I had the privilege of meeting
you some years ago when you were on a visit to this country.
It will be a great pleasure to see you again.
With the assurances of my high regard
believe me to be
Yours faithfully,
Herbert S. Houston [underskrift]
Herbert S. Houston.
