Pelorus
A pelorus is an instrument used to navigate at sea. It consists of a disc graduated in degrees and a diopter equipped with sighting vanes or a telescope, both of which rotate independently on the same axis. By sighting known landmarks, nautical marks or celestial bodies, the pelorus can be used to determine the ship’s position, and also compass deviations. We do not know which ship or expedition this pelorus was used on.
