Munkedamsveien 44B.
Oslo 26-7-25.
Dear Roald Amundsen.
From the highest point, below, saw auks and two geese flying north-west.
Can this not provide a clue? After all, water or ice is not the exclusive habitat for such birds. They can probably stay there for long periods of time, but their real home is not here, the den must be on mainland. That this should be Greenland or Cap. Columbia doesn’t seem reasonable to me – the distance there is so enormous. It is more likely, it seems to me, that they hunted land in the direction they were flying.

But I must immediately add that I am only an ignorant layman in this field, perhaps the scholars see the matter in a different light.

Respectfully your devotee
Sophus Aars,
as I feel, so must all, proud to be your countryman.
